Mono, How I Love Thee - Weekly Blog Entry

default

As some of you may have noticed, I, Danielle, have been MIA the last couple days.  Of course you noticed.  I bring excitement and a sunny disposition to EVERYONE's pathetically boring lives. But why have I been gone?  Simple, you fools.  I've been straight up diagnosed with mononucleosis.  Yes, precisely.

But, what is this completely beastly disease?  Weeeeeeeeeeell, allow me to make an Individual Blog Entry about it.

Because I KNOW you care.

"Mono is an infection usually caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). EBV is very common, and many people have been exposed to the virus at some time in childhood.

Not everyone who is exposed to EBV develops the symptoms of mono, though. As with many viruses, it is possible to be exposed to and infected with EBV without becoming sick.

People who have been infected with EBV will carry the virus for the rest of their lives - even if they never have any signs or symptoms of mono. People who do show symptoms of having mono probably will not get sick or have symptoms again." - http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/infections/common/mononucleosis.html

So... I'm gonna have a virus inside me.  Forever!!!  Which is kind of cool.... in a sort of demented sort of way.  xD

And no.

I didn't make out with an infected person to get mono.

.... Or did I?  *suggestively raises eyebrows*

Nah.  I didn't.

And, just in case you're wondering what I'm up to while I'm sick...

"Symptoms:

  • constant fatigue ( Check.)
  • fever (Got that one.)
  • sore throat (OH YEAH.)
  • loss of appetite (I wish... I've actually GAINED weight...)
  • headaches ( That's a new one.  Head a killer one today.)
  • sore muscles (I think those might be from P.E. ... but sure!!!)
  • larger-than-normal liver or spleen (Idk... but I'm willing to say okay. =D)
  • skin rash (no, but I've got acne!!! Pff... stupid teenage skin...)
  • abdominal pain (Again... probably from P.E.  but I can dream!!!)  " -http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/infections/common/mononucleosis.html

  • I know.  It's been one giant party all weekend.  Right... :(

So, do I really love mono?  As the title suggests?  Or am I being tragically ironic, which is in my nature?

Eh hem... I actually like mono.  I REALLY do.  Ch-ch-ch-check this out:

"Although there's no magic pill for mono, you can do some things to feel better. The best treatment is to get plenty of rest, especially during the beginning stages of the illness when your symptoms are the worst. Put yourself to bed and pass on school, sports, and other activities." - http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/infections/common/mononucleosis.html

Eh hem, let me break that down for you.

I'm out of P.E.  for... FOUR WEEKS!!!!!

I'm out of work at the ever so fun Burger King for.... TWO WEEKS!!!!

And I'm getting the best sleep of my life. ...  YEAH!!!! That's what I'm talking about.

Earlier today, while I was at school, Michael J. mentioned that I had an enlarged spleen (which is kinda weird that he knew that... and that the doctor had told me the same thing yesterday in the exact same words... perhaps Michael stalks me... I'll have to look into that...)  and wouldn't you know it?  The website had something about that, too.

"Doctors also recommend avoiding sports for at least a month after the illness because the spleen (an organ in the body that sits under the left rib cage) is often enlarged temporarily while you are ill. An enlarged spleen can rupture easily, causing internal bleeding and abdominal pain and requiring emergency surgery. Do not participate in contact sports, cheerleading, or even wrestling with your little siblings or your friends until your doctor gives you permission."

So maybe Michael said if I got punched in the spleen I'd die a horrible and painful death (I think he may have just said that cuz I always say I'm going to punch him in the kidney... Just to laugh and say, THAT'S RIGHT I JUST PUNCHED YOU IN THE KIDNEY, FOOOOOOOL!!!!) but all in all I think it's just another bonus.

I have an abnormally large spleen.  Ha ha... that's always a fun thing to tell people.

Or maybe it's just when you're weird like I am.

I'm a special kind of crazy.

So, there you have it.  I'm sick.  I love it.  And Mono is the best disease... Ever... If you're white and nerdy like me.
