NIE Report

Basically,  the report talked about what's going on in Iraq since January 2007 and what predictions have been made for the future.  While there were a lot of acronyms in the paper (which led to retracing the entire paper to find out what they were talking about...) here's what I got out of it.

• Attack levels across Iraq have fallen, but are still relatively high.

• Iraq's government isn't doing a very good job controlling all that's been going on lately.  (in all fairness... it must be tough.)

• Sunni Arab resistance to AQI (al-Qa'ida in Iraq) has gotten stronger, but they still don't quite agree with the new Iraqi government.

• Intra-Shia conflict is expected to get worse. Violence has erupted while competing for territory and valuable resources.

• The IC is working on diminshing the power of the AQI and thus improving security in the next 6-12 months.

Now about my feelings on the war in Iraq...

... in the beginning I supported the war. I mean, I wasn't that old, and the way people explained it to me it sounded like some big bad country had some big bad weapons and we needed to get rid of them.  But as time went on, I grew up, and now I realize that maybe we should count our losses and move on.  We didn't really find those weapons of mass destruction.  We got rid of Hussein, go us!!!  We helped set up a government in Iraq, and maybe we should just let it do its job.  It can't ever really be an independent government if we're always right there.  There's a lot of families in America missing their babies, it's time they came home.

Assignment Due Wednesday

Howdy!  I'm Danielle.  Currently I'm living it up in Harlan, only about ... 3?...ish... blocks from the High School.  I'd give you the street name, but let's face it, I've got enough stalkers as it is.  Just kidding... or am I?  I've got so many smaller people with my blood I've lost track.  Most recently, the count was four little half-sisters and 2 little step-brothers.  I'm half Danish, a quarter German, and a quarter Puerto Rican.  That's right.  So silly... I love drawing.  I made it into the Blank Summer Institute '07 for Visual Arts over at the University of Iowa.  Pretty sweet.  And I've set up my own art gallery.  I'd give you all the link, but uggh, I need to update the layout and make it more 21st-century friendly.   So when I finally get off my lazy butt and do it I'll put up the URL.  I'm addicted to my computer and have separation anxiety after only 7 seven hours away from it.  It's my only successful relationship.  I love reading, but only when I'm desperately bored and the internet's just not doing it for me.  My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (I read it in under 24hours!!!) I'm a bit of a drama queen and love acting it up on the stage. I'm trying out for the HS Play this year, I'll probably do Speech, Key Club, and uh... other stuff.  I'm pretty random, ask anyone and they'll tell you the same. I stalk my closest friends.  Squirrels are taking over the world, you know it, I know it, let's move on.  I get most of my news on Current Events from the Daily Show and Colbert Report.  You asked, I told.  Sometimes when there's something interesting on the front page of Yahoo or MSN I'll take a look, but it's not all that often.  I'll try and be a little more in tune with the news, now that I have a class where it might actually come in handy.  And that's really about it.  ♥ Danielle
