Impending Doom - Weekly Blog Entry

The time has come.  This issue shall no longer be blatantly ignored by politicians nor the student body.  I, Danielle, must rise up and take a stand for the truth.  If you choose to believe, I swear, it may better the world.

There are now over 500 groups on Facebook, proclaiming the foul events that both the authors and their loved ones have experienced.  Some of them have been mauled, nearly too mutilated to share their story via their keyboard.  Some were lucky.  Others were not.

Quoting Insanerthanthou from DeviantArt (insanerthanthou.deviantart.com):
"Despite what section this is in, I most definately did not alter this picture. The only reason that I put this into photomanipulation was because nobody would believe me otherwise.
I can't figure out why people find this suspicious. I was attacked by this thing!
...in somebodies garden.
...with a camera.
...and I somehow still have fingers to type this with.
Yeah, completely inconspicuous. suckers... *insert evil laugh here*
Anyway, we must strike soon to end this squirrelly threat while they are still in the planning stage. Spread the word quickly! Only by acting quickly can we save humanity from this menace! "

Several weeks ago, Mr. Bruns mentioned a small child had been attacked by a squirrel.  Said squirrel had escaped.  Attacks like these happen everyday.  People don't come out about it because, well, let's face it;  squirrels are everywhere.  Say one thing about one squirrel, and suddenly you are public enemy number one.

Trust me, I know.

I myself am stalked by squirrels.  As I'm sure you already know, there are four general types of evil squirrels; Mad Scientists, Mutant, Robotic, and Soldier Squirrels. Twice daily I am plagued by the mutant squirrel known as The Underwear Thief.  Don't ask.

And while I guarantee the entire population has had at least one encounter with an evil squirrel, none of them are willing to admit.  Voice your fears, my brethren.  We have nothing to fear but fear itself.  There is only so much time left for the human race.  Spend your days as if they were your last.  Because for all you know, today is the apocolypse.

Art Gallery Unleashed -Weekly Blog Entry

 default

Okay, I've had the new layout for my art gallery up and running for like, two weeks now.  The above picture is one of the newer pictures up there, which is said since it was finished in October 2006... If I don't post something about my art gallery soon... I probably never will.  Stupid procrastinating attitude of mine, what am I gonna do with you?! ... So, anyway, I decided to make a blog entry, so it gets the attention it deserves, kind of...

On my website, there's mostly really old images.  One of these days I'll get a crazy hair and actually put up some more (and WAY better) drawings.  There's a few lurking around my PhotoBucket account, and I just need to create a few pages and what not.  The most recent artsy-thing on there is my movie from BSI, Super Duper Danielle.  It's stop animation.  If you actually know me, LIKE REALLY KNOW ME, you would've seen that video coming.  The assignment was to make an alternate ego and an antagonist (enemy).  It's well.... Super Duper.

And, maybe if I talk myself into it, I'll make some political cartoons and whatnot to put up there... if extra credit was involved that project may come along sooner.  *suggestively raises eyebrows at Mr.  Bruns*.  I know you just want to cough over Bonus Points.   I know you do.

So who's hosting the website?  The images?  At the bottom right hand corner you'll find links to those Hosts, and also a special box that has a pointless little message in it.

Okay, so here's the address: http://www.freewebs.com/dhag

And below is a preview of the Hamster Dance movie that I should finish... someday.

Well, comment on this entry and let me know what you think of my website.  I'd love to hear what you think!!! ^^

Political Spectrum Quiz - Weekly Blog Entry

It's possible that Mr. Bruns only mentioned the "PG13" Political Spectrum Quiz to 2nd hour... but in any case I found it, and took the quiz!!!  It's kind of scary that I really tried to be truthful on the quiz.... and came out near the Pope, and ironically, Darth Vader.  How does that work?! But oh well, I guess I have issues I need to work out within myself.

If anybody's having issues finding the quiz, go here:

http://www.okcupid.com/politics

Remember?  He said it was related to Valentine's Day.  Cupid? Valentine's Day?  Remember?  You remember...

Check out the quiz.  I didn't see what was so innappropriate about it (oh... nevermind, maybe I do.), but maybe I'm just a silly little goose.  The one question about the duel to the death was pretty funny, and deep down inside I giggled pretty hard.

For my results I got Centrist a few times (in my search to find the PG13 quiz I accidentally took a few others) and I guess I don't really know what I am Republican or Democrat-wise.  If you're on the message boards one of these days, corner me and tell me what your results were.  Looking forward to taking that other quiz for the blog assignment.  I'm hoping I'll figure out which party I'm more aligned with.

So, anyway, check out the quiz, tell me your results, and stay in school.

The moral of this blog entry was Don't Do Drugs.

And, no, that last sentence was so NOT completely random.

Creepers - Weekly Blog Entry

 default

Around HCHS this morning, the big story was that of the SCCS principal.  Everyone was talking about how shocked they were that something like this could happen here in all places... the dinky little town of Harlan.  But the reality is, it could happen anywhere.

In Shelby County alone, there are eight registered sex offenders, five of which are from Harlan (http://www.iowasexoffender.com/searchENG.php?lname=&fname=&city=&countysearch=83&rzip=&ogender=0&bgender=0&race=0&feet=0&inches=0&weight=&aage=&hcolor=0&ecolor=0&consearch=ALL&simple=submit).  The number of them is five too many, if you ask me.

A factor in the SCCS Principal story was obviously the Internet, and it's getting pretty clear that we really do need to follow safety guidelines if we're going to post on chat rooms and such.  Mr. Bruns has a link to Safety Tips for Bloggers and Parents on his big page, and here's the link right here:

http://www.microsoft.com/protect/family/activities/blogging.mspx

Just be careful, my peeps, there are people around here who really care about you and wouldn't want something creepy and/or incredibly disturbing to happen to you.

I love you guys.

So there.

Human Trafficking - Weekly Blog Entry

default

A while ago I watched a movie called Human Trafficking, apparently it was on lifetime, and this morning on channel 3 there was something about human trafficking.  So, I thought I'd write a blog entry about it.  Here goes...

If I asked some of my friends if there was still slavery in the world, they'd more than likely say no.  Wrong.  If I asked some of my friends if there was still slavery in the UNITED STATES, they'd more than likely say no.  Guess what?  Wrong.  Again.

This morning on T.V. (I think it was on the Early Show, but I was half-asleep so for all I know it was something WAY different) there was a teenaged girl who had made friends with the new girl in High School.  The new girl had invited her over to her house, and while the girl was there she had a glass of water.

The next thing she knew, everything went black.

There had been a date-rape drug in the water, and the new girl's "father" was a human trafficker.

So, what is human trafficking?  By definition it is is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of people for the purpose of exploitation.  So basically, it's modern day slavery.

And that girl?  She was in America.

On TV they talked about how traffickers generally target young children.  They find them at playgrounds, around town, and even at school. Then they sell them to other traffickers, and most of the victims become sex slaves.

That girl was sold for $300,000.

Human Trafficking has been a problem for years, so why hasn't there been more coverage on these stories?  I'm really not sure. But it should be.

Anyway, I reccomend watching "Human Trafficking" on Lifetime.  It was a pretty decent movie. It'd probably help you understand what Human Trafficking is all about.

Artwork - Weekly Blog Entry

Howdy! I love drawing, so when I find political artwork it really makes things click for me.  When I was at the Blank Summer Institue from June 24-July 6 over at the University Of Iowa one of my fellow students introduced me to Phil Hansen.  I thought somebody might be interested.  He's like... awesome.  I'm hoping I can email him and get an interview by the time the next HCHS News Blog Entry rolls around, but until then you'll have to deal with this.

 As Of April 30, 2005

This is a painting he did of George W. Bush.  You see all those tiny dots?  Those are actually the names of all the people killed in Iraq as of April 30, 2005.  It took him 6 months to complete it and it landed him in the news.  He displayed the portrait in a park to see how people reacted.  It's actually pretty sad when you realize just how tiny he had to write all those names just so that all of the victims would fit in the 70" x 90".  Crazy.

The next painting is of Kim Jong Il, a Communist leader of North Korea.  Phil used 500mL of his own blood to paint on a canvas of 6,000 bandages.  It took him four months to complete, ending the final product to be 44" by 104".  I'm thinking the meaning of his painting is pretty obvious.  This guy has a lot of innocent blood on his hands.

To learn more about Phil Hansen visit http://www.philinthecircle.com.  I highly recommend it.  I love how much attention he pays to detail and how much feeling and personality he puts into his political paintings. He is crazy talented, and totally dominates at everything he does.  There's a video of him painting on his chest for 20 hours.  Check it out!

Blog Assignment #3-Opinions on the Flat World/9-11 Remembered

Thomas Friedman - Flat World

What does his idea of a flattening world mean to me?  Well, I think it means that other countries have the potential to be just as economically and technologically advanced as we are, and that it's very possible in the near future for them to be more advanced than us.  I completely agree with him.  Some of them are working harder and cheaper than most of America and we really need to get into gear.  How will it affect me in the future?  Chances are, I probably will have fewer job choices, and if I don't continue my education (I will, I promise!) then I might have such a low income it would make your head spin.  It's a problem.  I know.

 9-11 - An Un-Flattener-Thingy

I'm not entirely positive exactly where I was at the time of 9-11.  I do remember where I was when I was told about, and I think it may have been a few days later.  It was during class in third grade, back when I was still back at New Park.  My teacher told us that since we were the oldest kids at the school, it was probably more appropriate that we know what happened and didn't let it scare the younger students.  It didn't really make much sense at the time and though I have learned more, I think the reasons behind it are still very intricate and confusing to everybody.
