ISU men's basketball to play in Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic

ISU will open up the Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic against Bethune-Cookman Monday the 17. The last time ISU played was against rival Iowa when ISU came out on top 56-47. Bethune-Cookman brings in a 4-4 record to Hilton Colliseum, and is riding a 4 game winning streak. If ISU can hold Bethune to below 70 points then ISU has its best chance of winning. ISU will play Texas Southern on Wednesday the 19th in the 2nd round, and then play Purdue the 22nd in Las Vegas. Then ISU will paly either Alabama or Missouri State in the final round depending on the outcome of the two games betweeen ISU vs. Purdue and Alabama vs. Missouri State. Hopefully ISU can gain some more experience on this tournament that should be a very exciting event.

Earling and Panama Clash in a CYO Boys Basketball Game

Earling Boys Cyo and Panama CYO met this afternoon for a nice religous basketball game. Except it wasn't a nice game, it was a very tough physical game for both clubs. Earling started the game off getting to the free throw line, but didnt hit a single one out of their first eight. It was a low scoring 1st half with alot of fouls, turnovers, and bad shots. Panama took a 6 point lead,26-20, lead into the half time break. In the 3rd quarter Earling got within one point of Panama with what seemed to be the best strech pf the game for Earling. Earling played great defense which was sparked by the Henrich brothers who gaurded Panama's two best players. But Earling just couldn't seem to shut down Panama's Allen Schwery who led Panama in scorcing and gave Earling all night. Earling would end up losing the game by eleven points but it was really a closer game than the score states.

CWI semester review

Here is a little reveiw of what we've done in Current World Issues, what I've learned in Current World Issues, and reasons why I liked or disliked the class. First off somethings we learned in the class were the book The Flat World which was about how China and India might take over as being the "smartest" countries in the world. Another topic was Population Unit where we discussed the effects of Overpopulation and what causes it and all the other population problems. We also discussed Global Warming, how it is caused, what we contribute to global warming, and what you can do to stop global warming. We also discussed many small topics such as Darfur, Rwanda, Isreal- Palestine, China-Taiwan, Afganistan, and Iraq. I liked this class because it gave me a sense of why I need to keep up to date on my current events, and that I really like looking at current events. What I didn't like about the class though was that the tests were kind of hard, and you had to do alot of work outside of class.

Semester Tests and ITEDS

I think that both of these are hard but nessacary. Semester tests are necassary because they are over everything you have learned in that class in the semester. It is also important because it is approximatly 20% or so of your grade so if you fail it you will not do very well in the class. You shouldnt skip out on your semester tests or be late for your test or you could get a zero for the class, and you better study for them because they will be over everytihing in the semester and need a lot of hard work to get an A on. ITEDS are kind of the same as semester tests with the fact that it tests your knowledge in specific areas. It is also importand for the school because they are compared to other schools with this tests. You can also be placed in higher and lower classes with your scores on these tests. So all in all you should always be prepared to take the semster tests and the ITEDS because your future could depend on them.

Westroads Mall Shooting

On Wendsday December the 5th there was a deadly shooting inside the Von Maur store inside of Westroads Mall. The shooter was identifies as 19 year old Robert "Robbie" Hawkins of Bellvue, Nebraska. He lived a troubled life suffering from ADHD when he was a kid and he was kicked out of his moms house when he was 18. There were 9 killed(including gunman) and 5 wouned and injured in result of the shooting. Robert Hawkins came to the Von Muar store about six minutes before he started shooting when he came inside Von Maur to check the elevators out. Six minutes later he came back in Von Maur with a A K-47 stuffed inside his sweat, then he went on the elevator to the third floor and started shooting civilains and the Customer Service desk. Overall this was a sad day for Omaha and for the midwest as now anything can happen anywhere even in the midwest.
