Blog 9/9-Woman Chained to Engine Block

One day when Peter Erkelens was coming home, he noticed his neighbor was in her window making finger gestures to call 911. He went over and talked to her, and made sure that was what she wanted. Peter called 911, and said that the woman's boyfriend was outside of the double-locked door and was threatening to hit her. The boyfriend was an illegal immigrant, and fled but was caught when he heard of the police arriving. The police also found out that when the boyfriend left the house, he chained his girlfriend to an 800-pound engine block. That's weird! Everytime he left the house, he used a 20-foot dog chain to keep her attached to the engine block. So, the woman's safe now and the boyfriend has been deported back to Mexico. Freaky story.

Blog 8/9-$3 Million Pot Bust

Recently in Douglas County in Omaha, a camper on the back of a Dodge truck was pulled over for obstructed plates. The officer had a K-9 drug-smelling dog with, and the driver of the truck was acting nervously as the officer pulled up. The dog got out of the patrol vehicle, and took one sniff at the back door of the camper, and the officer knew had drugs. Over 2,000 pounds of marajuana was found inside the camper. That has an estimated street value of over $3 million dollars. It was the biggest drug bust in Douglas county of marajuana to date. It's good that the officers could get that off the streets.

Blog 7/9-UNI, ISU, or Iowa?

Which of the big three college football teams in Iowa, do you think, deserves to be crowned the best in Iowa? Would it be the Panthers of UNI, having a one-loss season in Division 1-AA? Or possibly Iowa or Iowa State?

The UNI Panthers had one crazy season. They won all regular season games, and were No. 1 in the Division 1-AA polls. They beat in-state rival Iowa State 24-13 at the Cyclones' stadium. Without the chance to play Iowa, they couldn't prove their dominance in Iowan college football. UNI's championship run was stopped short by Delaware, though, in the late playoffs of Division 1-AA.

After a disappointing 6-6 season, the Iowa Hawkeyes could look back to an early season loss to Iowa State as a key. Starting off 2-0, the Hawks traveled to Ames to face a not-so-good Cyclone team. After the loss at ISU, things went downhill quickly for the Hawks, as they lost 4 in a row. After going 2-4 through the first half of the season, things became better for the Hawks, then winning 4 out of the next 5. They had a chance to become bowl eligible with a win against Western Michigan at home, but the Hawkeyes couldn't prevail.

Iowa State's first season with Gene Chizik wasn't very succesful at all, but had its moments including a win over rival Iowa. At 3-9, they had the worst record of the big three. With a loss to UNI, but win at Iowa, you could say that says that ISU is the second-best team. But a 3-9 record doesn't help their case.

So, it's up to you. Who's number 1? I'd have to say UNI. They put the state of Iowa on the map this year for college football.

Blog 6/9-Halo 3 Overrated

I went to FOXNews.com, and I found an article on the bests and worsts of video games in 2007. It was pretty interesting, and the main thing that stuck out was 'Most Overrated Game' was Halo 3. Haha! So I'm not alone. I bought Halo 3 for $60 dollars and didn't even finish the campaign. Halo 3 has the record for highest sales on its first day released, at over $170 million in the first 24 hours, grossing over $300 million overall. Halo 3 was also voted 'Most Anticipated Game of 2007. Its reviews were well, receiving a 10/10 on Xbox.com, 9.5/10 on IGN.com, receiving TIME magazine game of the year awards. But, was it overrated? Yes, I believe so. I went back to playing my old games, and left Halo 3 to collect dust. Which brings me to my next point, $60 dollars? For a game? Yes, that's what we all pay for brand-new 360 games. I also found on IGN.com that it took Microsoft around $2 to produce, package, and distribute each game. That means they make $58 dollars a game? that's outrageous. But we continue to pay for overrated games.

Blog 5/9-Central American Gangsters Ultimate Makeover

The Mara 18 and Mara Salvatrucha gangs of Honduras, El Salvador, and Honduras, and L.A. are going for an extreme make-over. In the gang's home countries in Central America, police forces are cracking down. The Mara gangs numbers are over 100,000+, and increasing every day. In the last year, over 3,500 Mara gang members were arrested in El Salvador alone. The government's zero-tolerance for gang-related crimes has caused the Mara gangs to change look. Over 10 years ago, all members of the gang started to tatoo their entire bodies as a sign of intimidation to rival gang members and loyalty to the gang. So, with having entirely tatooed bodies, inlcuding their bodies, they stick out. That's why elder gang members have been teaching their new recruits to not get body-covering tatoos, and to change from wearing baggy pants and tank tops to more citizen-like clothing. That's how the Mara gang of over 100,000+ is getting an extreme makeover. They're starting to catch up with the police.
