Blog Assignment #8

I put all the numbers in after getting my dad and the bills and let the calculator do the work. I did not think that we would be at the amount my household was at. I was also suprised that the average for 2 people is 41,500. Americans emit alot of emissions and I am glad we are going to try to cut that number down to help save everything. My family emits about 51,250 pounds each year. I think my family will have to drive less and get everything done in fewer trips so we can save money and emissions. Recycling paper is also another thing my family can do to cut our emissons. We already recycle our plastics, cans, and glass. I think we can try to lower out gas and electric too so that we dont use as much. We will have to work on the that together as a family. This calculator made me more aware about how our emission are higher than we acutally think and how much we could do to make them lower. I hope everything works out and we all get our emissions way down like president bush said. Our planet is the only place we can live and i think we need to treat it very well. We need to make life possible for our children to come and not make them deal with as much of our problems because i am sure that they will have many on their own. I think this was a good individual newsblog to end on becuase it was a good eye-opener and i will remember this as the last one and try to reduce my emissions now that i think more about what is happening,.

Blog Assignment #7

This assignment talks about how much global warming is over blown. From a sppech by Senator James Inhofe. I think he makes some very good points like about how the media was going back and forth from warming scare to cooling scare. His speech also talked about in the Medieval time period when the tempuratures were extrememly hotter than they are now.  The "hockey stick" is summarized in the story too. Sixty scientists who questioned it are discussed within his speech. Computer models are used to scare the public into thinking what they want you to think. Kyoto is talked about breifly too. The media had trouble deciding about the climate change, like if there was a coming ice age or global warming was coming. Some records show that Greenland has more ice mass today than it did in the 1930's. The media is trying to scare people into caring. Within his speech he discusses some points from Al Gore's movie the Incovienient Truth and stated that many scientists that were contacted about his movie hadnt even seen it. Though media said that scientists gave his movie two thumbs up. His speech included alot of very good points that were opposit of Al Gore's Inconvienient Truth. Most polar bears do not seem affected from this climate change as of now as the media is trying to tell us different. And lastly it talks about how alarmism has grown to skepticism.

Blog Assignment #6

http://www.darfurisdying.com/

That game was very difficult. I didn't get what I was supposed to do and then after I figured it out, I still couldn't do it. The water thing was very hard the hiding wasn't very efficient in the desert with not much to hide behind. The well is also so far away. If u go away from the east well there aren't any other wells as far as my game showed. I kept re-trying to forge for water with every one of the people but I didn't get very far. The closest I got was about 4,000 miles away max. This game makes me really appreciate where I am living at. I don't have to worry about the militia catching me or worry about getting a disease, starving, running out of water, or forging for water. I also don't have to watch or wonder what they are doing to people that I know or others. I don't live a life of fear. I think there should be a large outreach and I think that we should try to inform more people about the facts. Not having clean water or food to eat would be horrible. The constant fear of being attacked would just be devastating. Not wanting to live because there is no point in life, it is just horrible what is happening and we all need to do something about it. That game was an eye-opener to me; it helped me realize how bad it really is over there and how much really needs to be done.

Blog Assignment #5

The article is about changing the coed classrooms to single sexed classrooms. They believe that the students will do better with only boys/girls within the classroom. Girls feeling less pressure to not look so smart and boys stopping their disruptive behavior for the girls. It is said that boys and girls need to be taught differently because they learn differently. Lower drop-out rates and higher test scores could be an outcome to the seperation of the sexes. The school in Georgia that the story involves is lower than the state and country average scores. They believe there needs to be changes to make their school more able to change thier rank in the state. Some of the teachers like the idea and others feel as if the idea is being forced apon them unwillingly. Same as some parents are for the segreagations and other are opposed.

My feelings on the issue is that it is just going to make it difficult in college the classes harder and if it thier first interaction in class with boys it could be more challenging. The segregation between blacks and whites was demolished by laws why should we segregate girls and boys. I think everyone should be treated equally and given the same opportunities within the US and if they are legal US citizens by legal US birth parents. I think that boys wanting to show off is a part of the school experience. I also think that girls will be able to interact better growing up around boys and not be as shy. Later in life in the workforce people have to interact within the opposite sex and i think that interaction and comforability starts early in life. I also think that would be a horrible scheduleing pain.

I got 54 countries listed in the time of 10 minutes.

I thought that that was a very difficult assignment because of the spelling delima. It was very suprising that there are so many countries that are recognized by the UN. 192 is alot to remember, especially in spelling. I rememebered alot of the ones from the recent test and the Europe area.  I didnt remember very many from the South American or African region, so i am kind of worried about the test over that area. I believe that that would of been easier without the need to spell it correctly. I am very thankful to Mr. Bruns that our written tests do not have to be written correctly.
