Britney Spears- In Trouble Again!

Britney Spears turned herself in to the police to be booked on charges from an August fender bender. She came to the Los Angeles police station at 9 Monday night. She was there about 45 minutes while being booked on misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run and driving without a valid California driver's license. Each of these counts that she's being charged with comes with a maximum time of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The charges resulted from an August 6 incident in which Spears allegedly hit another car in a Studio City, California, parking lot. During court on October 1, they ordered for her to give up her custudy of her two children to her ex-hunsband, Kevin Federline. Last week, a judge set conditions for Spears to gain increased visitation rights.

A Murder Trial has to be Haulted because of a Lack of Money

Brian Nichols, is accused of escaping from custody at a courthouse in Atlanta, where he was on trial for rape. He killed the judge for the "rape trial," a court reporter, a sheriff's deputy who chased him outside and a federal agent he encountered at a home a few miles away. The judge for this murder trial for Nichols now, has suspended jury selection due to the defense not being adequately funded. This trial has been bogged down with the state's public defender's office that has represented Nichols and has been lacking the fees and expenses that they are supposed to have from Brian. If Nichols is convicted, prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty. Fuller has ordered the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council to appear at a contempt hearing Monday to explain itself. The council is responsible for Nichols' defense costs. Brian's lawyers say that the jury selection needs to be ended now, beacause they can't prepare for the trial without funding. $1.8 million has already been spent on Nichols' defense, and there isn't enough money for other cases.

Do You Think there Should be Fewer Illegal Immigrants?

As you already know, most Americans would like there to be fewer illegal immigrants in the U.S. But, what you didn't know is that only 3 people out of every 10 say that they should all get sent out. There was a poll taken on 1,212 American adults. Seven percent of those polled said they would like to see the number of illegal immigrants increase, 22 percent said they would like the number to remain the same, 16 percent want it decreased "a little" and 22 percent want it decreased "a lot." More whites compared to blacks think that all of the illegal immigrants in the country should be removed. Both the blacks and whites are opposing the issuing of driver's liscenses to illegal immigrants.

Did She do it?

A woman with the name of Lisa Montgomery from Melvern, Kansas is accused of kidnapping and killing a 23-year-old woman, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, who was expecting a baby, and then cutting the baby from the woman's whomb and claiming it as her own. Carl Bowman, Montgomery's ex-husband, said that she was unable to have any more children because the doctor recommended she had her tubes tied after her fourth pregnancy. The doctor didn't think that she would be able to carry any more babies to the full nine month term. She is accused of doing this on December 16, 2004, at Stinnett's home in Skidmore. Montgomery was arrested the day after the murder of Stinnett, and she was showing the baby off as her own child at a diner, bank, courthouse and the convenience store where she worked. After she underwent the surgery, she claimed to be pregnent two times before her and Bowman split up. When she later remarried Kevin Montgomery, she claimed to be pregnant three other times. Carl said that in November, she seemed a lot more confident and called him the night before Skinnett was killed and told him that she was going to prove him wrong.

Guns were O.J.'s Idea

So, when O.J. went to confront the two memorbilia dealers, he wanted armed men with him so the guys would think that they're tough and there for business. Simpson's co-defendant has agreed to a plea deal to testify about the armed robbery case. "O.J. said 'Hey, just bring some firearms,"' Walter Alexander told the police. O.J. has denied that there were guns involved in the confrontation with the two men at the Palace Station hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alexander told police that he had a .22 caliber handgun in his waistband, and another guy that was with him pulled out a larger gun, but didn't know the exact size of it to try to impersonate a police officer. Simpson told the guys to put the guns down and acted surprised to see them with the guns. Then again though, O.J. told them to bring the guns just to show them that they had them and not to take them out of their waistband. Simpson said that guns were not involved, and if that's true it really hurts O.J.

A Recall on Cold/Cough Medicines for Children Under the Age of 6

There was a recent death of a 4 month old baby, Devon Mehlberg-Alvarez, in Illinois. Devon woke up with a cold one morning. His mother, Dimitria Alvarez, took him to the doctor that day. The doctor told her it was just a cold and to go to the store and buy an over the counter cold and cough medicine. His mother did as the doctor said and followed the instructions for the suggested amount to give to Devon. A few mornings after they saw the doctor, Dimitria went in to check on Devon during his nap. She came to find a 4 month old baby that was cold and wasn't breathing. Devon was dead. When she told her mother, Deborah Mehlberg about Devon, she needed answers to why he was dead. The investigators blamed SIDS at first for the death, but Deborah and Dimitria didn't think that was right. A while later the tests came back and said that it was because of Dextromethorphan intoxication. This means that Devon's body could not metabolize one of the key ingredients found in many infant cold and cough medicines. over the past couple of years, many babies and toddlers have been to the emergancy rooms due to having a bad reaction to a cold medicine. The FDA will soon meet to discuss whether these medicines are safe or productive in young children. Last week, there was a recall for more than a dozen of the leading manufacturers in cold and cough medicines.
